    My Story

Pretty In Pink Survivor, Advocate, Caregiver & Woman of Hope

I Cynthia Davis am a proud cancer survivor, mother of three beautiful daughters, guardian to a young man I have raised since he was three months old, and grandmother of five.

I am the owner of CPR with Caring Hands Training Academy and Caring Hands with Loving Hearts, a private-duty caregiving organization. The founder of Dream 4 Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to bringing hope, support, education, and resources to individuals and families in need.

Through Dream 4 Hope, My team and I help revitalize homes for stable housing, feed people experiencing homelessness, gift giving to seniors and children, celebrate senior parties for those who may not have family nearby, and give back to the community through education and hands-on support.

Today, My work has become deeply personal.

As a breast cancer survivor, I am committed to increasing awareness and sharing the information I wish I have received during my own cancer journey. My advocacy focuses especially on women of color, women with low incomes, and women with state insurance, while honoring everyone affected by breast cancer, including men.

I underwent surgery to remove both breasts and went through three reconstructive surgeries. I continue to live with visible scars, pain, changes to my body, hard and uneven breast tissue, keloid scarring, muscle tightness, and neuropathy in my feet following chemotherapy.

My journey has also taught me that recovery does not always happen in a quiet or predictable way. I believe breast cancer awareness must go beyond diagnosis and treatment. Survivors deserve to know about the realities of recovery, reconstruction, changes to their bodies, financial challenges, supportive resources, and the importance of advocating for themselves.

I want patients to know about resources that may be available to help with things such as specialized bras, wigs, food, household expenses, and other needs that can become overwhelming when someone is unable to work during treatment and recovery.

Just nine days after my November 2024 surgery, while I was still recovering with drainage tubes, my 10-year-old guardian child was struck by a school bus on school property. He had not yet reached his own bus when another bus jumped the curb, struck him, and ran over the fence. He suffered a broken femur.

While recovering from my own cancer surgery, I spent approximately three months in the hospital at his bedside helping care for him, managing my own medical appointments, and advocating for his care and guardianship.

My experience showed me just how important it is for patients and caregivers to have information, support, and someone willing to listen.

I also learned about resources from other patients that I had not been told about by my own healthcare providers, including assistance related to specialized bras and possible financial and food-support and transportation programs. Because I was unable to work immediately following surgery, I understands personally how overwhelming the financial side of cancer recovery can be.

    My message is simple:

Ask questions. Speak up. Know your body. Know your resources. Advocate for yourself.

This event is more than a fashion show. It is a celebration of survival, strength, confidence, education, advocacy, community, and hope.

My mission is to help make sure fewer patients have to say:

“I wish somebody had told me.”

Our stories matter. Our voices matter. Our perspective matters.
